Girls Gymnastics

“5 Star” (advanced 4yr & 5yrs)

This class is for 5-year-olds! “5 Star” gymnastics is a recreational class designed to teach the basics of gymnastics and tumbling with athletes that are in their age bracket. In gymnastics classes athletes will work on all 4 Olympic events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Gymnastics focuses on building discipline and self-confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination, body form, mental toughness, balance, athleticism, and a variety of skills. Our students will learn in a safe and wholesome environment. We always want to ensure that your child is in a class that will teach and challenge them, but most importantly that they are getting to participate in fun activities which lead to their enjoyment of the class.

CLASS ATTIRE: 

Girls should wear either leotards or snug athletic clothes. Boys should wear snug athletic clothes. Please, no dangle jewelry, as this is a safety hazard. Hair should be pulled back for safety as well. We request that children do not have their midriffs showing. We sell Arrow t-shirts and leotards if needed.

Class time: 45-minutes-long 

 

Girls Recreational (6 yrs & up)

Girls Recreational Gymnastics Program, also known as Girls Rec, is for girls ages six to thirteen. Gymnastics serves as the heart and foundation of our company. We believe no matter the age, initial capability, or length, of commitment, every child can thoroughly benefit from participating in this phenomenal sport. Our developmental girls’ gymnastics recreational classes are designed to teach basics through advanced gymnastics skills. In our classes, athletes will practice on all 4 Olympic events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Gymnastics focuses on building discipline, self-confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination, body form, mental toughness, balance, athleticism, and a variety of skills. Our students will learn in a safe and wholesome environment. We always want to ensure that your child is in a class that will teach and challenge them, but most importantly that they are getting to participate in fun activities which lead to their enjoyment of the class.

Class time: 55-minutes-long 

Level 1

At this level, the gymnast is learning the fundamentals and proper skill progression. Learning proper progression will ensure your child’s success as she progresses in the sport. Gymnasts will need to master specific skills in order to move up to a higher level. Below are the skill progressions required to advance in the Girl’s Rec Program.

Floor:

  • 3/4 Handstand, step down to lunge
  • Forward roll tuck
  • Cartwheel (3/4 turn into lunge)
  • Backward roll tuck
  • Candlestick
  • Forward Passé Balance
  • Forward Chasse
  • Bridge kick over 
  • Split jump
  • 1/2 turn

Bars:

  • Mount to front support
  • Glide swing
  • Cast (3 in a row)
  • Toe taps in L-hang
  • 1 Pull-up
  • Kick over (assisted)
  • Forward roll
  • 1/2 way rope climb
  • L-hold

Level 2

After learning the fundamental gymnastic skills taught in Level 1, athletes will make the next advancement in our program. In the Level 2 Class, gymnasts will expand upon the basic skills and apply them to more challenging gymnastics skills. The skills required for your child to participate in the Level 2 Class are listed below.

Floor:

  • Bridge kick over on the floor
  • Cartwheel
  • Round off rebound
  • Forward and Backward roll
  • Handstand on the floor

Bars:

  • Kick over with limited spotting
  • Glide Swing
  • Cast Hips off the bar

Level 3

After learning the fundamental gymnastics skills taught in the Level 1 Class and the more advanced skills in level 2, your athlete will move to the next advanced class. In Level 3 class, gymnasts will expand their knowledge of gymnastics and learn more challenging skills. The skills required for your child to participate in the Level 3 Class are listed below.

Floor:

  • Back handspring over a barrel
  • Running round off rebound onto a mat
  • Back walkover and Front Walkover
  • Handstand forward roll onto a wedge

Bars:

  • Kick-over no spot
  • Back hip circle with limited spot
  • Sole circle dismount or straddle dismount

Level 4

The final level in School Age Girls Recreational is the Level 4 class. In the Level 4 Class, gymnasts will experience a fast-paced environment with learning to combine and connect skills, while focusing on form and strength. This class is by invite and your child must have finished the lower 3 class levels.
